Pentaword

Pentaword is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a five-letter hidden word in a limited number of attempts.

Pentaword (A Wordle-like Word-guessing Game) Gameplay

1. Game Setup

  • The game provides a grid of empty spaces, typically 6 rows high and 5 columns wide.
  • Each row represents one guess, and each column is a letter in the five-letter word.
  • The game will provide a hidden five-letter word at each round.
  • 2. Making a Guess

  • You start by typing a valid five-letter word into the first row.
  • You can use the on-screen keyboard or your physical keyboard.
  • Press ENTER or the SUBMIT button to confirm your guess.
  • 3. Understanding the Feedback (Colors)

After you submit a guess, the tiles of the letters will change color to give you clues about the hidden word. This feedback is the core of the strategy:

  • 🟩 Green: Correct position
  • 🟨 Yellow: Correct, but wrong position
  • ⬜ Gray: Not included
  • Important Note on Duplicates: If the hidden word has a duplicate letter (e.g., "SNAKE" has one 'A'), and your guess has two 'A's, only the first 'A' might show a color (Yellow or Green), while the second 'A' might show Gray if there is only one 'A' in the secret word. The colors indicate how many times that letter is present in the hidden word.

    4. Strategy and Winning

  • You use the color feedback from your previous guess to inform your next one.
  • The game continues for up to 6 guesses.
  • You win if you guess the correct five-letter word before or on your sixth try.
  • You lose if you use all six guesses without correctly identifying the word.
  • Advanced Strategy Tips

  • Maximize Information: Your first two or three guesses should be about information gathering rather than trying to solve it immediately. Use unique, high-frequency letters.
  • Vowel Priority: Most English words have at least one or two vowels. A strong starter word covers the most common vowels (E, A, O, I).
  • Handle Yellow Clues Carefully: If you have a Yellow letter, remember it cannot be in the spot you just tried. When you try it in a new spot, if it stays Yellow, you've eliminated a second position. If it turns Green, you found its spot!
  • Avoid Plurals: The hidden word is rarely a common plural ending in 'S' unless the 'S' is critical to the word itself.
